Charlestown, WV Hollywood Casino In 800 out -1800

Well. Title says it all. This is what happens when you chase your losses. I will say that 500 was from roulette losses. Need to learn to just walk away.

Charlestown Hollywood Casino

Part Trip Report, Part complaint and question! In 750, out 840 - 3.5 hrs of play.
Went to Charlestown, WV for a quick 3 hour trip. In and out was the goal. I just wanted to scratch that itch. I started the night playing roulette, made about 50 before going over to craps once the table opened up. I went with the "Squeeze Play" at a $25 level even though the table was at $15 min. I did make a pass line bet too, which is not normal unless I am shooting. When i made my 220 inside bet, the dealer began to argued with me that i couldnt bet the nine, bc that was the point. I asked why i cant just bet my money the way i intend, and the boss over ruled her and the bet was made. Second issue i had: After two numbers hit and i was regressing to 160 across, she was still paying me and the stickman sent the dice and they rolled in the middle of my transaction. 7 out!. The table was sooo rushed and they were barely letting the dealers take bets or pay people before sending out the dice. The last straw for me happened during a regression when he took down my money, and put me 160 across, he asked me to pay the vig (buy 4-10) again, even though i already paid it. Told me, well i moved it down so you have to pay it again. Complete bullshit.
From that point on, i was very vocal about what i wanted. "take down INSIDE NUMBERS ONLY" to 110 inside. When it was my roll, he would pass me the dice and i wouldnt touch them till everyone was down paying and betting. He looked annoyed. The pit boss was very nice and easy going, but the dealers and stickman seemed very impatient and lacking the knowledge to deal craps. This was a Thursday night. Maybe i have to go back during the weekend to get the A-Team.

Played Horseshoe, Baltimore for the first time tonight.

So, one $25 and one $50 table at 9 pm on a Friday night? How does that make sense. People were basically standing on top of each other at the $25 table.
Drained my $400 on bad rolling at the $50, trying to blow off steam. Oh well, back to MGM and Charlestown.
Casino looks nice on the inside though. Clean and kempt. Def not my craps destination in MD though. Im sure others might beg to differ?

Hollywood Casino (Charlestown) vs. Atlantic City for new(ish) player.

Hey Reddit,
This is my second post to poker, and I'm a new player, so pardon my ignorance. After a good run in a home game (see http://www.reddit.com/pokecomments/147fah/soft_home_game_ethics/), I'm thinking of heading to a Casino and trying out my luck there.
I live in the D.C. area, so both Charlestown and AC are within driving distance. After browsing old posts, it looks like Borgata or the Trop would be the places to go in AC. I was hoping that someone with experience at both would be able to give me their opinion on the merits of both. I've run my $100 initial poker budget up to $1400 (in 2 months at this homegame), and while playing 1/2 is technically beyond my bankroll, the trip is more to have a good time and relax for a weekend.
Any thoughts on which might be a better choice? Any advice at all would be appreciated - whether about dealers, house rules, the rake at each, how soft/tough the games are, etc. Your thoughts are much appreciated!

Hollywood Casino at Charlestown

So I'm currently hiking, but I noticed that you can catch a bus to charlestown from harpers ferry. Anyone here that can tell me more about their poker room situation? I'm currently on mobile so I can't tell if the site won't say it or if I just can't find it. Basically I'm interested in the competence of staff, rake, tournament schedule and their cashgames. Also if someone knows if there is a dress/appearance code, since I basically only have hiker clothes (boots/crocs/woolsweategymshorts) and my beard is pretty scruffy.

Big parking lots to practice driving in snow?

Probably not tonight because there isn't much, but the next good storm we get I want to go practice in a parking lot to get used to handling on ice/snow, I have my permit so I'm a new driver. Can't really think of any good big, open, unplowed, not busy parking lots that'd be good to practice in. In NK but willing to go wherever really. Kinda odd question but I think it's something more people should do!

DC/MD tables under $25?

Not looking for bubble craps or RTW. Last time I went to Live in MD, tables were $50 and I’ve heard MGM National Harbor is the same.
Anyone in the DMV area know where I can find $15 (or god forbid, $10, lol) tables?

Windcreek Bethlehem Weekday Mornings

Hello everyone. This October, I’m staying home with kids for a few days while my wife is away at a work conference. I’m thinking of heading to Windcreek after school drop off for a few hours before returning to pick them up. I usually play around the Mid-Atlantic region as I travel for work. I mostly visit MGM National Harbor, Live! Maryland, Hollywood Charlestown, Delaware Park, and Parx Casino.
Anyone have any insight on the games from around 9am to 2pm? I’m hoping there’s enough players to keep the games running. I played Perryville one time, and a total of 10-11 players were on 2 tables. I’m not a big fan of playing 5-handed for an extended period of time. I prefer a ring game that’s 8-9.
I live about an hour away, and this is the closest casino, since Hollywood at Penn National isn’t re-opening their poker room.

Looking for gambling addiction stories in Maryland.

Hi, I'm researching addiction issues in Maryland after 10 years of legalized gambling there. If you know someone who might have been affected by legalized gambling there, or even someone who got a good job through a casino, send me a message. Thanks.

UTG (villain) has $335
BTN (villain) has $200
UTG opens to $10
MP calls
BTN calls
BB (hero) 3bets to $55 with AKh
UTG calls
MP folds
BTN calls
Flop: T65 shh (~$175 in the pot)
I check, UTG bets $100, BTN folds, I call
Turn: 2d
I check, UTG jams $180, I call
River: 5d
It seemed like I was getting the right odds to call on the flop and turn with two overs and the nut flush draw but I'm not sure. I figured he might have something like TXh or TT-QQ possibly AA-KK the way it played. I have no history with either player so that wasn't a factor.
Would you have played this differently?

Boston 10 Day Trip Report: A Total Immersion Travel Experience in New England's Flagship City

I went to Boston for the first time in a few years and got the chance to visit family and friends. I spent 10 days in the area and got the chance to immerse myself in the city.
Weekend 1 Pics: https://www.flickr.com/gp/158149703@N04/5n5HDu
Monday Pics: https://www.flickr.com/gp/158149703@N04/yzKR35

Boston is a coastal flagship city which is one of the oldest cities in the country. The history carries on to this day and as the 10th largest metropolitan area in the country it leads the nation (and world) in education, healthcare, public transportation, and athletics. There is a distinct culture around the city, a substantial depth of fine arts and a defining resilience that makes Boston unique. While the area is very populated it does feel extremely close knit, there is no wonder why it is called ‘The Town.’
When I visit places I like to do what I call a ‘total immersion,’ where I become a local as best as possible and see and do things from all walks of life. I experienced delays on the T, crazy drivers on the Mass Pike, experienced the opening of the Ballet and felt the energy of an evening game at Fenway. I climbed up many hills from Savin Hill, Bunker Hill, Telegraph Hill, Prospect Hill, Corey Hill and many others. I went to farmers markets, grocery stores and local neighborhood eats. I visited libraries, parks and countless universities. I took a variety of transit trips on foot, bike, bus, ferry and rail. I took in the skyline from all angles near and far, from the seaport to South Boston and beyond to the Noanet Woodlands. I did my best to get a clear picture of all facets of life in Beantown.
In the 3 days I had a BlueBike I rode 92 miles utilizing 36 stations. I rode on all 5 major T lines: Blue, Green (B,C,D,E) Orange, Red (Ashmont, Braintree), Silver (SL4) and utilized 30 stations.
I visited 41 different parks, from small urban gardens to large forests with lush views.
Boston is a city that feels extremely vibrant and academic but at the same time it can be quite blue collar, it just depends on where you go. From the youthful energy of Cambridge to the more mature and laid back Brookline, from the ritzy Back Bay to the gritty winding streets of Roxbury... Boston carries on with confidence, for this is Titletown a city core to the formation of our country. This is where our founding fathers made history, this is where English civilization came to fruition in North America.
I had an incredible time in Boston, it is a truly wonderful city and up there with the finest in the world. It is a large, open and welcoming community with a small town at heart. Thank you Boston for the great experiences I will always have the city on my mind.

Rants
-Vibrancy goes down significantly after hours, not much open at night past 9pm

-Wake up and go to Green St. Orange Line, there is a brand new train but it is going outbound to Forrest Hills so I take an old train to Massachusetts Ave station and walk through the SW Corridor Park. I love the juxtaposition of the historic walk ups to the towering skyscrapers

-Then I meet some friends and walk through the Copley Place shops and then go up to the Skydeck on the top of the Prudential Building
-The views are great but I do not think worth the $20+ price of admission. Its is cool though to see all of the places I have been from a birds eye view, especially the water and all of the rowhouse neighborhoods
-Then take Prudential Green Line to Haymarket and check out the farmers market
-I then head to City Hall Plaza and take in the Boston Climate Strike
-Next I take Green Line E train from Government Center to Symphony Hall and go inside
-I see performance of the Boston Symphony I get a seat on the first balcony to have a view of the two piano concerto. There is also a world premiere piece commissioned by the BSO and Beethoven's Fantasia featuring The Tanglewood Festival Chorus.
-After the Symphony I take the Orange Line to Stoney Brook and get some bagels from City Feed
-In evening head to Millenium Park and go for a run, take trail down to the Charles River and then take in the sunset from atop the skyline loop
-Go out to dinner at Sweet Rice in JP

Saturday
-I go for a morning run, I first cross the Emerald Necklace into Brookline to check out Larz Anderson Park. Then I go through the Arboretum and the Bussey Brook Meadow to the Forest Hills Cemetery. I visit the burial places of Revolutionary War General Joseph Warren, Poet E.E. Cummings, Abolitionist William Llyod Garrison and Nobel Laureate Playwright Eugene O'Neil.
-Then I go to the Sam Adams Brewery and go for a toutasting where I try the Boston Lager, Oktoberfest, and Pumpkin Ale
-Then take 39 bus to the Back Bay and walk down Newbury St and check out all of the shops
-Get a burrito at the Back Bay Trader Joes and then walk to the Boston Common where the ‘Freedom Fest’ is taking place, there is a lot of smoke which I cannot handle so I walk around
-I check out the ‘Friends’ couch set and then take the Silver Line from Tuft Medical Center to Dudley Square

Saturday

So going to go up to Charlestown to place a bet on the Superbowl Saturday. Wondering if anyone knows of anything going on or cool places to stop on the way or the way home. Right now we are planning on stopping in Jefferson for the AYCE breakfast, then going to the casino, then stopping at Harpers Ferry (depending on weather). Thinking about hitting up the brewery at the top of the hill over bridge if the weather is bad. Any thoughts for other ideas to do between Frederick city and Charlestown?

Shuffle tracking?

Just finished reading black belt in blackjack. Shuffle tracking was intriguing, very hard to detect by a casino. I live in Maryland but will go to any casinos in PA WV or MD. I have seen Charlestown hand shuffle occasionally but mostly are machines. Is there anywhere that hand shuffled around? Shuffle tracking seems hard as shit but even more rewarding than counting.

Theory about the Back to College Killer in Charles Town, WV?

On The Murder Squad podcast about updates earlier this winter, they said that Jesse Matthew (the guy they nicknamed the Back To School Killer or the Back to College Killer) travelled a lot. They mentioned he went to Charlestown, WV. Mainly the reason people travel there is to visit the casino or the racetrack. A portion of the Appalachian Trail also runs through a park in Charles Town.
So if he attacked or killed anyone while he was there, people might want to look at cases of attacks, disappearances, and/or murders around the racetrack, casino, and trail. (However, the casino/racetrack seems like more his vibe based on the murders we know about.)
Just because of his nickname and the crimes we know about, we probably shouldn't assume that he only or mainly attacked in the fall when school started back up. Idk what the busy times are for the casino and track, but it seems worth looking into.
Also near Charles Town are a handful of colleges and universities, some tiny and some medium-sized. Not sure if any crimes have occured around them that may be related to Matthews.

Cheapest Table Minimums

Live in frederick MD, played in hollywood casino charlestown last night 15 dollar min and had to wait till 2 am for that, place was crazy crowded even at 3 AM, played great didnt lose count and played perfect strategy. Still lost as every dealer stiff turned into 20/21 and all my DD 11 turned to 14's. Just got fucked all around last night but still played very well.
My question is what are the best casinos within 150 miles that have a 5 dollar min? Would feel much more confident starting off. I hear PA has great rules for blackjack so if anyone could give me a recommendation please

Best Casinos near me

New to Card Counting. Live an hour west of DC. What are the best casinos to count cards? Been to MGM, Horseshoe, Charlestown, and so far Charlestown seems best. I heard MGM has CSMs but I must have missed them. I have no problem making a little drive for a good game. Anyone have success with any casinos around this area?

Police Find a Human Leg and the Missing People Along The River Irwell, is there a Connection to the Manchester Pusher?

The Manchester Evening News Reported on the 28th Nov 2018 Police check missing persons list after 'human leg' found in River Irwell. Police are checking a list of missing people after human remains - believed to be a leg - were recovered from the River Irwell in Salford. The force says 'enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing'. The alarm was raised by a passer-by. Emergency services were scrambled to a stretch of the river near the red Jubilee Bridge, off Britannia Street. The North West Police Underwater Search and Marine Unit was also sent. A large cordon was erected as the investigation began. The bridge was closed off, with officers standing guard. The Jubilee bridge spans the river from Littleton Road playing fields at Lower Kersal to the Whit Lane area of the city (less than a few hundred yards from the Kersal Cell a well known paranormal hotspot with reports of dark cloaked figures being reported in the area since the 1500's, this is also an area of a recent sighting of the Salford Wildman in Jan of 2017, sightings of which go back to the 1970's). Police divers were seen entering the water, while officers were seen trawling the banks of the river. Witnesses said two black bags were later placed in a van by police after being pulled from the water.
Witness Stacey Sherratt, 29, said: "I first heard the sirens at around 11am, so I came outside and saw a boat pulling up two black bags. “I saw someone pulling a rope to bring the boat back in and then they put the two bags on the floor and put them in a van.” Police have released few details about the incident. There was however a discovery made two weeks later. A Human leg found in Manchester river belonged to missing mother of two. Police reveal recovered body part from 58-year-old Marie Scott, not seen for almost a year. DNA testing then confirmed the leg belonged to Marie Scott, who was reported missing from her home in Hale near Altrincham on 18 December last year, said Greater Manchester Police (GMP). The force said an investigation is ongoing, but at this stage there is no reason to believe there was any foul play or suspicious circumstances? Marie was last seen heading to a local shopping centre. Also along the Irwell and reported by the BBC is the strange case of missing man Nathan Tomlinson 2011.
Police investigating the disappearance of a man who went missing after a Christmas party are trying to identify a body found in the River Irwell. Nathan Tomlinson, 21, of Stockport, was last seen leaving the Mitre Hotel, near Manchester Cathedral, on 17 December 2011. Police believe he asked a bus driver how to get back to Stockport before he was captured on CCTV walking through Salford near the River Irwell. A body was found near Meadow Road in Lower Broughton on Thursday. Greater Manchester Police said Mr Tomlinson's family had been informed and efforts to confirm the identity of the body would be made later. Footage released by police may show Mr Tomlinson leaving the bar and jumping over a wall near the cathedral before walking across Victoria Street. He is believed to have ended up in Chapel Street, Salford, where a man fitting his description asked a bus driver how he could get home to Stockport. As part of inquiries to trace Mr Tomlinson, officers carried out a week-long operation in the area around the University of Salford, Peel Park and Salford Crescent railway station. 'A police spokesman said: “The identity is confirmed as that of Nathan. “A post-mortem examination has taken place. Further tests to establish the exact cause of death are to be carried out, but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.” The news comes eight weeks after trainee sports science teacher Nathan, 21, from Brinnington, Stockport, disappeared following a works Christmas party at the Mitre Hotel in Manchester city centre. The body was recovered from the Irwell at 2pm on Thursday near Meadow Road in Lower Broughton, Salford. Nathan must of been lost and fallen into the river on his walk home?
In the same area there is another case of a missing man who was found in the River Irwell under 'no suspicious circumstances' a report in the Trafford Local News dated ) Oct 2018 stated Police are piecing together the movements of a Salford man in the days before he was found dead in a river. The body of 62-year-old Stephen Jordan was sadly found in the River Irwell near to Cromwell Bridge in Higher Broughton on Sunday 7 October 2018. (This area is less than a mile from the littleton Road site where missing Marie Scott severed leg was found and as discussed above this was also found in no suspicious circumstances) In the case of Mr Jordan the coronar stated 'There were not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death a Home Office post-mortem examination, concluded 17 October 2018, proved inconclusive. Police are trying to piece together Stephen’s movements, with the last confirmed sighting of him being on 24 September 2018 at his house on Levens Street, Charlestown, Salford. Detective Inspector Joe Clarke of GMP’s Salford Borough, said: “At this stage, we’re treating Stephen’s death as unexplained and we’re working with the coroner to find out exactly how he came to die. “We have to keep an open mind in these circumstances but we are not currently treating this as a murder inquiry. “I appreciate the photo we have of Stephen isn’t the best and it is from a few years ago, but I’d ask people to study it and let us know if they saw him between 24 September and 7 October 2018.
It would seem that none of these deaths are being linked to the 'pusher' they did not happen in the busy centre of Manchester but further out of the city into the small neighbourhoods of Salford and Bury the Irwell itself runs North to the Ramsbottom area of Lancashire and the missing and sadly deceased people are being found all along that route. Is it the River itself that calls to people or is it just a sad fact of our society that people go missing or turn up in our local River and its barely noted, no huge headlines or hundreds of police out looking for clues, just a small statement in a local rag that will never make the National newspapers as the post code is not M1. As we follow the Irwell to its source we will see the same pattern over again. CCTV footage of a missing man from Bury has been released by Greater Manchester Police officers. Steven Dyson, 22, was last seen at 9am on Monday 1st January leaving a New Year’s Eve Party on St. Andrew’s Close in Ramsbottom. The CCTV shows Steven on the day he was last seen at Longsight service station around 4am and then later that morning using a cash machine on Bridge Street at 6am.
Detective Inspector Vicky Shaw, of GMP’s Bury Borough, said: “It’s been five days since Steven was last seen and his friends and family are worried sick. “Searches will continue around the Nuttall Lane area, with officers being supported by the underwater search unit, NPAS and the dog unit to find Steven. “We’ve had lots of help from people in searching for Steven so far and we’d ask for people in the area to please check your sheds and garages in case he’s seeking shelter. “It is likely that he is still in need of medical attention, which is why it’s so important that we find Steven as soon as we can.” A body found yesterday by police searching for Steven Dyson has been confirmed to be that of the missing Bury man. Officers searching for the missing 22-year-old found the body yesterday morning in the River Irwell in Bury, near to Railway Street. Steven's mum Lorraine Roach posted on Facebook: “I am devastated to say that the body found today is my lovely beautiful boy Steven. I am heartbroken. “I thank you Ramsbottom people for the massive overwhelming support. My angel my son. My love.” Greater Manchester Police said yesterday that "there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding this man’s death."
The Body of elderly man found in River Irwell behind Salford casino not being treated as suspicious, police confirm Oct 2014 The circumstances surrounding the body of an elderly man who was recovered from the River Irwell in Salford yesterday evening are not being treated as suspicious, police have confirmed. Officers were called around 7pm on Wednesday after a body was spotted from the towpath near the A57 Regent Road, behind the Grosvenor Casino in Salford. An underwater diver team recovered the body of a man, believed to be in his 60s, though he has not yet been identified. A formal identity process is now due to take place. Greater Manchester Police have now confirmed that they believe there were no suspicious circumstances around the death.
As I normally report paranormal and cryptid reports it does stand out when I see a missing person found close to one of the above, at Holcombe Moor there is an account from a serving soldier on duties who saw along with his partner a 'huge hairy Ape Man type Creature' on two occasions in the 1980's so when the story of missing local woman Valerie Weston 58 appeared in the paper it caught my interest. POLICE searching for a missing woman have found a body in the River Irwell close to Bury town centre. Officers were called to a stretch of the river close to Bury Grammar School at just before 1pm yesterday after a passer by spotted what he thought was a body. The discovery the disappearance of Valerie Weston, aged 58, of Chapel Terrace, Ramsbottom, who was last seen at home at 10.50pm on Monday by neighbours who had left her address after spending the evening with her.
Her best friend Janice Johnson, who had known the former Coney Green High School teacher for 25 years, said the ‘whole community is in shock’. She said: “She was with my friend on Monday night and the next morning she called me to say she had not slept in her bed. “We were on a weather warning and she would’ve gone out to look and check on the river as we usually do. It was really windy and she could have been blown in. A Lancashire Police spokesman said: "There are no suspicious circumstances and a file will be prepared for the coroner. " Inspector Andy Carter, of Lancashire Police, said: "We believe she went out for a wander in the back garden and fell into the river. "Officers are supporting the family at this difficult time and our thoughts are with them."
Of course all of the above could be mere coincidental as the River has claimed many over the decades, when looking for bodies found along her route I found a story as old as 1814 The death of Lavinia Robinson, the Manchester Ophelia The body of 20-year-old Lavinia Robinson was found in the River Irwell on 7 February 1814, over seven weeks after she went missing from her home in Manchester. Had she done away with herself or, as some suspected, was she pushed into the water? And what was the nature of the furious argument she had with her fiancé on the night before she disappeared? Lavinia was described as “a young lady possessing superior mental accomplishments, with a person lovely as her mind, and of the most fascinating manners,” Lavinia’s sister Esther, having a cold, had gone to bed early but at 2am was startled awake as if by a loud noise. She could find nothing amiss and went back to sleep but at 3.45 got up to prepare for the chimney sweeps who were coming early in the morning. She noticed that the front door was unlocked. A short time later she discovered that Lavinia was not in the house.
Lavinia’s family reported her missing at the police office and advertised a reward of 30 guineas for her return “live or dead.” During their agonising wait, in the middle of a particularly cold winter, the River Irwell froze over. Their hopes may have been raised when a young woman arrived in distress at the home of a magistrate in Thatcham. He suspected that she might be Lavinia Robinson and, when questioned, she said she was – but it turned out that she was lying. Finally, at the beginning of February, the ice on the Irwell began to break up and on 7th Mr Goodier, a millworker, came across Lavinia’s body on a sandbank at Barton. She was still in the fawn-coloured gown she was wearing on the night she left her home, a pink and yellow silk handkerchief around her neck. She had lost a shoe, her mantle and a black beaver hat.
The next day a two-day inquest opened at the Star Inn, under the Coroner Nathaniel Milne. One of Lavinia’s brothers described hearing snatches of the argument between the lovers, her sister Esther spoke of being woken suddenly in the night, and James Bentley detailed his dealings with Holroyd after Lavinia disappeared. Holroyd, who declined to give evidence in person but submitted a written statement, left the court before the verdict was returned. The Coroner state “That Lavinia Robinson was FOUND DROWNED in the river Irwell… but how or by what means she came into the water we will never know. There was not enough evidence for a murder charge, nor for the certainty that Lavinia had committed suicide.
The inscription on her gravestone included the following lines:
More lasting than in lines of artThy spotless character’s imprest;Thy worth engraved on every heart,Thy loss bewail’d in every breast
Sadly sometime it is simply a case of bad things happening to good folks, mysteries abound and I am sure there will be more to come as the years move on from the River and along her bank.
