Political Betting Odds of Trump 2024 Win Rising; GOP Odds to Take House Senate Increase
Political Betting Odds of Trump 2024 Win Rising; GOP Odds to Take House Senate Increase
Every day for the past two years, I’ve been scraping political betting markets and tracking probabilities of different 2020 election outcomes. I combined that data with stock price data on this dashboard, to gauge how different companies will likely be effected by the result of the election. [OC]
+EV on Political Betting?
According to
538's election forecast, Biden has a 71% chance of winning the general election. But looking at the
political betting market (I use pinnacle because I'm Canadian, I'm not sure what other sites look like), his chances are only ~50%. So if we have confidence in 538's model, we should bet on Biden.
Why question is: what the fuck is going on? Either 538's model is way off or pinnacle is providing a pool of +EV that anyone can easily tap into. Maybe my understanding is way off here? Does anyone have any insight?

I’ve been scraping political betting markets for the last 2 years to help you trade on the 2020 Election
Here's a post with some more explanation of my methodology and such. Basically I've been scraping online betting markets daily and combining that data with stock data to try to figure out which companies have the largest stake in the outcome of the 2020 election.
I think the value in this dashboard is as a starting point for finding interesting correlations, which you can build upon with further investigation.
For instance, I thought it was strange that the box for UPS was so blue. I knew Trump had talked of cutting funding for the Postal Service, and my assumption that this would mean decreased competition for private companies in the industry such as UPS.
However, after doing more research I found that
UPS has become increasingly reliant on the Postal Service to deliver their packages. Previously, I would have thought that betting against UPS would be the right move if you were confident in a Biden win, but looking at the data lead me to question my assumptions.

Political betting, bloomberg odds too good to be true?
I'm using 5dimes and I'm seeing odds for bloomberg not winning any primaries at -215. He isn't polling in the top two of any released state polls that I know of and I wouldn't mind locking up these odds until the democratic nomination process is done. It feels too good to be true. What do you think?
EDIT: now at -420. These aren't good odds imo

Political Betting and Crypto - The future?
As you may have noticed, crypto currency is having a bit of a moment and it got me thinking - could this be great (or terrible) news for political betting?
One of the key attributes to cryptocurrency is that it's anonymous, so in this specific case you can bet anonymously on politics. This has the potential to lead to candidates (or insiders at least) being able to bet large sums of money on the outcome of a vote/election without being found out. Which is obviously a very enticing prospect for certain members of parliament.
However, on the other hand, cryptocurrency betting allows the whole globe to bet free from the government restrictions. Freeing people from the strangle hold of "the man" to a certain extent.
Do you guys think the possible emergence of crypto gambling in politics is positive or negative for the environment?

Still more broadly defined, the political system is seen as a set of “processes of interaction” or as a subsystem of the social system interacting with other nonpolitical subsystems, such as the economic system. This points to the importance of informal sociopolitical processes and emphasizes the study of political development. Political is a ubiquitous and seemingly indispensable term in the discussion of human affairs. We use it to speak of quite different kinds of things — institutions, actions, conflicts, expenditures, a type of discourse, a branch of science, and such. We apply it to the life and thought of modern nations, ancient cities, and primitive tribes. 1.
